During his senior year at Saint Ignatius High School, Michael McManamon suffered a broken scaphoid in his wrist – an injury that threatened to keep him off the lacrosse field during his final high school season. Through Saint Ignatius’ partnership with the UH Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute, Michael was connected with orthopaedic surgeon Julian Gatta, MD, for prompt evaluation and treatment. After surgery and a seamless recovery, Michael returned to the field that spring and went on to have an outstanding senior season.

He was named the 2026 Ohio Player of the Year and finished his Saint Ignatius career as the program’s all-time leading scorer with more than 300 points. A four-year letterwinner, Michael also earned First Team All-State honors and was a three-time First Team All-Region selection.

Now continuing his lacrosse career at Yale University, Michael’s journey demonstrates the impact that timely access to specialized sports medicine care can have for a student-athlete.

Through partnerships with schools like Saint Ignatius, the UH Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute works to provide athletes with access to expert care and a team focused on helping them safely return to the sports they love.
