For Mom (Keep It Simple)
- Comfortable clothes for after birth
- Slippers and shower shoes
- Lip balm (hospital air = dry lips)
- Snacks and drinks (especially for late night cravings)
- Optional: your own labor gown (most people use the hospital’s)
The hospital usually provides gowns, underwear, socks, pads and recovery essentials.
For Baby (Less Is More)
- Going-home outfit & blanket
- Mittens or socks for hands (to prevent scratches)
- Special items for photos (name sign, sentimental pieces)
- Car seat (and remember to properly install the base beforehand)
The hospital typically provides hats, blankets, diapers, wipes, onesies and formula/pacifiers if needed.
For Partner / Support Person (Be Ready to Support Mom)
- Comfortable clothes
- Snacks and drinks
- A book or iPad
- A small bluetooth speaker (especially if mom has a favorite playlist)
- Personal medications (e.g., pain relievers, heartburn meds)
Note: Hospitals don’t provide any medication for support persons.
