The 2025 George H. Thompson and Connie Poe-Kochert Visiting Professorship was quite special. Held in the spring, our guest was James O. Sanders, MD, Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery at University of North Carolina, who gave insightful lectures on scoliosis and skeletal maturity that conveyed decades of pioneering research and clinical experience.

Dr. Liu and Dr. Sanders have been researching skeletal maturity together for years in collaboration with Dr. Dan Cooperman (our beloved former partner who currently practices at Yale), and the three have had skeletal maturity summits in multiple states.

Dr. Cooperman traveled “home” for the entire event to present a thought-provoking talk on bone remodeling, and to join in on our summit on planning skeletal maturity research for the coming years.

Our second visiting professorship was the Victor M. Goldberg Visiting Professorship, which occurs in the fall and is an opportunity for our research residents to showcase their extra year of work. We were excited to have Eric W. Edmonds, MD,

the current President-Elect of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, provide entertaining and helpful feedback on the resident projects. He also gave great lectures on how to handle challenging situations at work and updated our faculty on the latest data on treating adolescent clavicle fractures which he has collaborated on with surgeons around the country. We also enjoyed spending some time in Cleveland, touring Wade Chapel and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
