NICU best in region according to U.S. News & World Reports Rankings for UH Rainbow

UH Rainbow ranks in 8 pediatric specialties with 6 in top 25

CLEVELAND, Ohio – University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital (UH Rainbow) once again earned high recognition in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals annual rankings. UH Rainbow is ranked No. 6 in neonatology, and among the nation’s 25 best children’s hospitals in orthopedics, cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, pulmonology and urology.

In total, UH Rainbow ranks among the nation’s top 50 children’s hospitals in 8 medical and surgical specialties including neonatology (#6), pulmonology (#20), diabetes & endocrinology (#21), orthopedics (#22), cancer (#22), urology (#24), nephrology (#43), and gastroenterology & GI surgery (#44). UH Rainbow has ranked among America’s Best Children’s Hospitals every year since 1991 and the inception of U.S. News rankings.

UH Rainbow has long been regarded as an international leader in the treatment of critically ill and extremely low birth-weight babies since pioneering neonatology in the 1960s, and is home to one of the nation’s first family-centered NICUs. UH Rainbow’s Quentin & Elisabeth Alexander Neonatal Intensive Care Unit model has been adopted by hospitals around the country.

At UH Rainbow, neonatal specialists collaborate closely with maternal fetal medicine specialists, creating the safest and most comprehensive care for pregnant women and their babies – all under one roof, so mothers and their babies are never separated.

The U.S. News’ Best Children’s Hospitals rankings rely on clinical data and on an annual survey of pediatric specialists. The rankings methodology considers clinical outcomes, such as mortality and infection rates, efficiency and coordination of care delivery and compliance with "best practices.”

This summer, University Hospitals will open the UH Rainbow Center for Women & Children in Cleveland’s MidTown neighborhood. The facility is designed to provide community-centered care that addresses medical, social, and environmental factors influencing health – and to take a collaborative approach with patients and community stakeholders to address health disparities. This new urban healthcare model will be unlike any other delivered by an academic medical center, and will offer pediatric primary care, adolescent medicine, pregnancy and gynecologic medical care for women, mental health, dental care, vision clinic – and much more – with a focus on prevention and total health needs in a convenient, one-stop location.
