Jane Arruda, MD

Janine Arruda, MD, brings a wealth of knowledge to the expanding pediatric cardiology program at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.

She currently serves as Medical Director of Non-invasive Imaging, which includes echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. She joined UH Rainbow in October 2014 after 10 years at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Arruda earned her medical degree at Faculdade de Ciencias Medicas de Pernambuco in Brazil, then completed four years of postgraduate training in both adult cardiology and congenital heart disease. She then received additional training in echocardiography in congenital heart disease at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Afterwards, she completed a pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of Oklahoma and pediatric cardiology fellowship training at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Arruda is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University and is board-certified in pediatric cardiology.

Dr. Arruda performs and interprets echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms and cardiac MRIs in pediatric and adult patients with congenital heart disease. In addition to these responsibilities, she also manages and follows a diverse group of outpatients.

“Most of the patients I see with congenital heart disease have either been prenatally diagnosed or present with common findings such as murmurs,” she says. “I often see children and adolescents with symptoms such as chest pain, palpitations and syncope, and I have a special interest in neuromuscular disorders such as Duchenne and Becker’s muscular dystrophy.”

Dr. Arruda sees patients at UH Rainbow main campus, as well as UH Landerbrook Health Center and UH Solon Health Center – part of the pediatric cardiology group’s commitment to treating patients and families where they live.

“We continue to expand our services and our outreach clinics in the community to better serve our pediatric cardiology patients,” she says. “Patients who aren’t close to Rainbow main campus have access to clinics at several sites – Landerbrook, Solon, Westlake, Parma, Concord, Mentor and Medina.”

Dr. Arruda attributes much of her department’s growth to the success of The Congenital Heart Collaborative – a cooperative agreement between UH Rainbow and Nationwide Children’s Hospital to share expertise and provide coordinated services at Northeast Ohio and Columbus. She points to increased growth at UH Rainbow in both pediatric cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology procedures.

“It’s been a wonderful experience to be part of that process,” she says. “Our common goal is to provide the highest-quality care to our community.”
