Ohio Chapter AAP

The Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (Ohio AAP), representing more than 2,900 members in the state of Ohio, is proud announce the recipient of our highest honor, the 2019 Elizabeth Spencer Ruppert, MD, FAAP, Outstanding Pediatrician of the Year Award, is Andrew Garner, MD, FAAP. This award recognizes a pediatrician for distinguished achievements and outstanding contributions to the advancement of pediatric care and education for patients and physicians in Ohio and across the country.

Dr. Garner has provided years of service and dedication to the Ohio AAP. He is a past-president of the chapter and member of the Foundation Board; provided leadership to the Building Mental Wellness program; and is widely recognized for his book Thinking Developmentally. A pediatrician with Partners in Pediatrics in Westlake, Ohio, Dr. Garner is a member of the UH Rainbow Care Network and is the Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Dr. Garner is a national expert on early brain development and the factors affecting it, and has been an invited lecturer at numerous national and international pediatric professional meetings and conferences, speaking on topics such as the impact of stress and trauma on the developing brain. He also has published extensively on early brain development in pediatric medical journals and neuroscience journals.

“Dr. Garner’s dedication and passion are unparalleled,” said Mike Gittelman, MD, FAAP, and Board President of the Ohio AAP. “His overall enthusiasm for the health and well-being of Ohio’s children has made him stand out in the field of child health in Ohio and across the nation.”

The Ohio AAP and our members thank Dr. Garner for his dedication, hard work, expertise, leadership, and passion for pediatrics.

The award was presented at the 85th Anniversary Awards Reception on Friday, September 27, 2019, during the Ohio AAP Annual Meeting at the Hilton Polaris Columbus.
