Site offers comprehensive services in a convenient location

UH Clinical Update - January 2019

When it comes to physical therapy, expertise is a huge part of the equation. But so is offering a location that is extremely convenient for many patients.

UH patients now have a new option for physical therapy at University Suburban Health Center in South Euclid. The Michael M. Supler and Associates Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Practice housed in that building is now part of UH Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine.

Among the services provided are orthopedic physical therapy, sports rehabilitation, spine rehabilitation, balance training, strength training, and concussion management. A lesser-known service offered is dry needling, a newer therapy technique in which thin filiform needles are used to create a response that deactivates the contracted, painful muscle.  This leads to improved mobility and the ultimate goal of increased function or return to activities.

“The addition of this practice is part of the continuum of care we provide at UH,” says Joe Blasiole, Vice President of UH Rehabilitation Services. “We’ve retained all the therapists in the practice, which has been here for nearly 46 years.

The Green Road location is also convenient for many UH employees, notes Blasiole – those who work at the facility, and the thousands more who work at UH facilities in the eastern suburbs, such as in Beachwood and Shaker Heights.

Adding a physical therapy practice also offers better access to existing UH patients, allowing for ease in making timely appointments.

Physical therapy, as Blasiole explains, is about active healing. While therapy is something commonly done post-surgery or after an injury, its breadth and depth is also meant for conditions that go beyond orthopedic.  In concussion management, for example, physical therapy may include closely monitored exercise, vestibular activity, balance training or manual therapy that can help return people to participation in activities of work, school, sports or home.
