Donating to Family and Child Life Services

Your generosity means so much to the Family and Child Life Services team as well as our patients and families at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Often, the smallest donation can make the biggest difference in a child’s experience at the hospital!

Please view our wish list for a list of items that are frequently provided by members of our team to patients and families during their healthcare experience.

Donation Guidelines

The safety of our patients is extremely important. For this reason, all items being donated must be brand new (store-bought) and safe (non-toxic). Due to infection control policies, there are some items that we are not allowed to accept and limitations on how items are distributed. Please keep these in mind when making a donation:

  • We cannot accept items that have been on display or stored in a way that they may have gathered dust, cigarette smoke, or allergens (even if they are new).
  • We cannot accept the following items: bubble bath, military toys, guns/weapons of any sort, religious-themed materials (books, toys, music), or items with latex.
  • Donors are not allowed to deliver items directly to patients and families due to privacy.
  • Donations should not be gift wrapped.

Winter Holiday Donations and Drop-off Day

The winter holidays are a busy time in the hospital and for donations. In order to prepare for the winter holiday season, the Family and Child Life Services department holds an annual donation drop-off day the second Saturday in December. Getting Your Donation to Us

Please consider donating all year round. Patients celebrate milestones throughout the year such as birthdays, graduations, end of treatment, and other holidays. Donations can help make those celebrations more special. To schedule a day/time to drop off your donation throughout the year, please call 216-286-GIVE or email childlife.donations@UHhospitals.org.
