The Center for Pediatric Palliative Care at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital provides services focused on holistically helping children and their families.

Our Services Include:

  • Managing and controlling pain
  • Controlling symptoms, including:
    • Nausea
    • Shortness of breath
    • Fatigue
    • Constipation
    • Loss of appetite
    • Difficulty sleeping or agitation
  • Providing prenatal consultations, which are vital for parents who become aware of life-threatening medical complications in their unborn child; our team helps parents form a comprehensive plan for labor, delivery and beyond
  • Enabling enhanced communication between family members, doctors and staff
  • Providing consultations through the
    • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which supports critically ill infants and their families
    • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) consultations, which includes planning for long-term stays in the hospital
  • Helping families to make informed decisions about medical care
  • Providing access to nurse practitioners, social workers, art and music therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, child life specialists and chaplains
  • Offering bereavement support
