Providing Comprehensive Neurosurgical Clinical Training

The Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center Neurosurgical Residency Program at University Hospitals is a comprehensive seven-year program, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Our program consists of a comprehensive curriculum designed to teach clinical and surgical excellence as well as a background in research. Our flexible curriculum affords two years for residents to pursue research and clinical interests tailored to prepare them for their future career goals.

Our faculty are dedicated to shaping the next generation of neurosurgeons through education, mentorship, and fostering a culture of continuous learning. Our team is actively engaged in innovative research, clinical trials, and technology development to advance the field, bringing that cutting-edge knowledge to patient care. We additionally foster an environment to develop leaders, empowering residents to grow as clinicians, scholars, and future leaders who will drive meaningful change in neurosurgery.

Program Aims

The Neurological Surgery Residency is designed with the following aims:

1. Develop neurosurgeons who possess a strong sense of integrity and display the highest level of professionalism
2. Develop neurosurgeons who are actively engaged in the education of the next generation of physicians
3. Develop neurosurgeons who act as physician leaders throughout the environments in which they practice
4. Develop neurosurgeons who practice evidenced based medicine, grounded in the foundations of best practice
5. Develop the scientific/research interests of the residents who will have successful scientific careers
