UH Mobile OB Imaging Unit
University Hospitals has launched a Mobile OB Imaging Unit to increase access to advanced pregnancy health screenings across Northeast Ohio. Our mobile unit will be stationed at a variety of convenient, UH locations across the region to offer OB ultrasounds by maternal fetal medicine (MFM) specialists. Appointments and a physician’s order are required.
All UH mobile ultrasounds are performed by a team of registered sonographers and will be interpreted by physician experts on the UH maternal fetal medicine team.
Providing Prenatal Ultrasounds Close to Home
Ultrasound is a safe and specialized, high-quality diagnostic tool used during pregnancy to enhance safety for the mother, improve fetal detection rates, and provide reassurance regarding fetal well-being. Typically, two or three ultrasounds are performed during pregnancy, providing critical information to obstetric providers. Ultrasound can help:
- Confirm heartbeat, position, fetal number and amniotic fluid levels, and estimate due date
- Screen for potential complications for mom or baby
- Identify congenital anomalies that require specialized pregnancy management and support birth plans with the collaboration of the MFM care team and the mother’s obstetrical provider
FAQ
- What type of ultrasounds are available on the unit?
-
Detailed anatomy ultrasound: The anatomy ultrasound provides a detailed look at your baby’s anatomy, taking measurements of body parts and internal organs. This scan will help determine if your baby is growing and developing normally, and review amniotic fluid level and placenta location.
Detailed first trimester ultrasound: During the first trimester ultrasound we will take a detailed review of the first trimester anatomy to help screen, identify and diagnose fetal anomalies for those patients at risk.
Fetal well-being or biophysical profile (BPP): This simple diagnostic test is performed with ultrasound to assess fetal well-being. A biophysical profile is a way to check on overall fetal health.
