Fellowship Programs Mission

pediatric fellows

The mission of our Fellowship Training Program mirrors that of the American College of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Pediatrics which is to train academic physicians who will become leaders in their respective fields. It is our aim to provide each fellow with a solid foundation in clinical medicine as well as research. Our research experiences are varied and trainees have the opportunity to pursue different areas of focus, such as bench, clinical or translational research depending on their area of interest. These critical components of the programs, both clinical and research, allow our trainees to advance in many areas. Some our trainees do enter private practice; however, many of our former fellows take academic positions at top-ranked pediatric institutions as well as head subspecialty divisions and even pediatric departments.

Fellowship positions are open to candidates who have completed at least three years of training in general pediatrics. Each fellow is required to spend at least two years as a clinical or basic science investigator. A combined fellowship/PhD program is also available for some highly qualified applicants.

The Center for Pediatric Education

Our Education Center provides the administrative support for all fellows, residents, medical students, and faculty education at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Jerri Rose oversees the Pediatric Fellowship Programs. In addition, each fellowship has a dedicated Fellowship Director. The Pediatric Residency Program is directed by Dr. Keith Ponitz with the assistance of Associate Directors, Drs. Jessica Goldstein and Ross Myers. Our Medical Student Program is directed by Dr. Michael Dell, and Clerkship Director Dr. Katherine Miller. Together we work to develop innovative educational programs for all learners interested in child health.

Under the leadership of Jessica Williger, our Program Administrator, the Education Coordinators attend to all administrative requirements of the pediatric training programs, from assuring compliance with ACGME and other regulatory agencies to recruitment and orientation. In addition, the coordinators assist all fellows and residents with their professional lives.

We are all dedicated to maintaining the tradition of educational excellence that makes UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital a wonderful place to continue your career.
