Division & Institution
The Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital is comprised of pediatric hospitalists who work in several clinical settings throughout our hospital system. The division has three main objectives:
- We strive to provide children and families with every possible chance of maintaining good health.
- We emphasize training the next generation of excellent and caring pediatricians.
- We actively support child advocacy and pediatrics research.
The division is one of the largest at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. We provide comprehensive care to children throughout the region with a focus on providing acute care with easy access to subspecialty consult when necessary. We oversee a large physician referral program for children requiring urgent hospitalization. Additionally, we supervise a broad array of research, advocacy and professional education programs. The team includes accomplished pediatrics specialists: physician, teachers and scientists.
Our program exists in the context of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, which is in a phase of rapid expansion of its research effort and has reached the top dozen medical schools for NIH funding support in the last few years. Our program is based in the Department of Pediatrics, which has been numbered among the top 10 such departments for NIH funding for the last decade. This Department has 110 faculty based at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, which is among the top children’s hospitals in the U.S., as named by U.S. News & World Report. Thus, the institutional setting of the program is one of balanced clinical and research excellence.
