Enlarged Vestibular Aqueduct Syndrome

Hearing Loss Risk Calculator

One of the challenges with hearing loss due to enlarged vestibular aqueduct (EVA) is the lack of prognostic, or predictive, information to guide decisions for families.

In an effort to provide further hearing loss predictions to physicians, patients and families, Dr. Nathan Farrokhian and a team of researchers at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital investigated predictive models to estimate the risk of progressive hearing loss in patients with EVA.

This hearing loss risk prediction calculator can estimate the probability of hearing loss progression at one, three, and nine years. Patients or physicians must have certain data points available to use this calculator.

Gender *
Size of the vestibular aqueduct operculum in millimeters *
Air PTA at time of diagnosis (from initial audiogram) *
Incomplete partition type II II (also known as Mondini malformation) *
Laterality *
