Program Aims

The aims of the General Surgery Residency are:

  • Prepare surgeons who have the broad skills set to practice general surgery
  • Develop physicians who are effective mentors and educate other health care professionals and students
  • Graduate surgeons who are committed to their desired surgical fields as demonstrated by becoming fellows of their national society’s organization if available and participating in that Society’s conferences and activities
  • Graduate surgeons that value quality improvement in our profession and strive to improve care for their patients on an on-going basis
  • Graduate surgeons who seek to improve health care inequalities within their local environments
  • Graduate surgeons that recognize the importance of physician self-care and balance between work and outside interests
