University Hospitals Offers a Reproductive Psychiatry Track within Public and Community Fellowship

The Reproductive Psychiatry Track of University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center’s Community and Public Psychiatry Fellowship offers post-graduate training for psychiatric physicians and advanced practice nurses.

The Reproductive Psychiatry track offers diverse clinical experiences, an individualized didactic curriculum and opportunities for scholarly work focused on the mental health needs of women throughout their reproductive life cycle.

The partnership with the Public and Community Psychiatry Fellowship supports the trainee in the development of leadership and administrative skills necessary for new and innovative programming within this growing subspecialty field.

Clinical Sites Provide Comprehensive Clinical Experiences

Fellows in the Reproductive Psychiatry Track participate in the following:

  • Integrated, proactive inpatient consultation service at UH MacDonald Women’s Hospital
  • Maternal Mental Health Program in University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Mom Power Program: a manualized dyadic program for women with a history of trauma and current psychiatric symptomatology who are currently parenting children less than 6 years of age.
  • Perinatal psychiatry clinics at a community mental health center
  • Reproductive Psychiatry Clinic located in an academic OB/GYN clinic
  • Observational experiences: Prenatal care clinic for women with substance use disorder and psychological assessments for infertility and oocyte donation.

Scholarly Work Within Women’s Mental Health Psychiatry Track

To complement clinical and didactic learning, each fellow within the Reproductive Psychiatry track will be expected to complete one scholarly project over the course of the year. While the focus of this project can be flexible, projects focused on institutional quality improvement, trauma-informed care in obstetric settings or models of integrated care for women who are pregnant, postpartum or parenting are especially encouraged.
