The Nuts & Bolts
Our young and energetic Residency Program Leadership Team has a genuine interest in each and every one of you. Established on October 1st, 1958, this residency program has served the Cleveland community for years providing high acuity care to an extremely complex patient population. We boast heavy clinical base year anesthesiology experience, early sub-specialty exposure and anesthesiologist-led surgical and cardiothoracic Intensive Care Units. Clinical exposure to complex intraoperative cases, to our Level 1 trauma center and to our expanding regional and outpatient rotations greatly augments trainee experience. Education is a top priority – CA1 to CA3 residents enjoy weekly education half days, monthly subspecialty journal clubs, regular simulation sessions and intermittent education retreats throughout the year. Independent learners thrive in our fast paced environment, and we seek to support you every step of the way. We prioritize your wellness knowing it is key to learning and long term satisfaction with the field; UH provides valuable and easily accessible resources to help you navigate residency. From individual class representatives and a specialized Team Building Chief to an open door policy with program leadership and an institutional Employee Assistance Program, we make sure that you have support at every level. All of our residents belong to mentor pods led by a dedicated faculty member and colleagues from each class. Our leadership objective - beyond graduating phenomenal bedside physicians - is creating a cohort of trailblazers who align organizational, departmental and personal goals to drive meaningful system change every day. Our impact as physicians is multiplied when we understand the challenges that arise at the interface between clinical care and the surrounding administrative or political ecosystem, and when we are intrinsically motivated to take action to implement positive solutions.
