Our Goal is Your Safe & Comfortable Hospital Stay
From the time our patients are admitted until they are discharged, we do everything possible to ensure their stay with us is safe, comfortable and convenient.
Room Amenities
Each private patient room includes the following services at no extra charge:
- One View TV and Internet Service: Our One View Interactive Television System is a free service that allows you to watch cable television and movies on demand, play games and access the Internet, all on the television in your room. The system also provides important patient education and information about the hospital. Use the One View remote control attached to your bed to navigate the system. To access the Internet, ask your nurse for a wireless keyboard. For instructions and a channel directory, please refer to the guide on your nightstand.
- Call Light: Each patient bed is equipped with a call light that allows you to request help from the nursing staff. Once you press the light, the unit secretary will answer your call, assess the urgency of your need or question, and get you an answer or the help you need as soon as possible. Some call lights are part of the remote control, some are part of the bed and some are attached to the bed by a cord. Your nurse can explain how to operate your call light.
- High-Speed Wireless Internet: Wireless keyboards are available on request. To connect, please follow these steps:
- Turn on the laptop or other Wi-Fi device with wireless enabled
- Connect to the wireless network “UH_Guest”
- Launch the Web browser and go to the website www.UHhospitals.org
- Some users may need to configure the SSID or network name to “UH_Guest.”
For technical support, please call 888-304-9131. (Dial “0” and the operator will help.)
- In-Room Telephone Service.: Patients may use their room phone to make unlimited local calls. Long distance calls will incur an additional cost – dial “0” for operator assistance. Cell phones may be used throughout the hospital at any time.
- For local calls outside of the hospital, dial “9” followed by the number
- For calls within the hospital, dial the last five digits of the number
- Environmental Services (Housekeeping): Our Environmental Services teams strive to keep your room clean and sanitary. We offer “Housekeeping Upon Request” service, so should you have a housekeeping need, please call. We aim to be environmentally friendly by using sustainable products, conserving resources, and reducing waste, noise and odors. Call ext. 43071 or 216-844-3071 from outside the hospital (24 hours a day, seven days a week).
Patient Meals
At-Your-Request Room Service
Our At-Your-Request Room Service program allows UH Cleveland Medical Center patients to eat meals when they wish. It works like this: You place your meal order with our Nutrition Services Department any time between 6:30 a.m. and 9 p.m., and your meal will be delivered within one hour. You may place an order for one meal at a time or for several meals in advance.
Menus are kept on your nightstand (or can be requested from your nurse or the division secretary). Kosher and gluten-free menus are available too; just ask your nurse or call Nutrition Services.
At-Your-Request Room Service (Nutrition Services): ext. 4FOOD (43663) or 216-844-3663 from outside the hospital
Guest Trays
Visitors who wish to order a room service meal and eat with a patient can purchase a meal in advance through the Atrium Café. The visitor simply goes to any cashier in the Café and asks for a $6.50 guest tray, paying by cash or credit card. Please save the receipt. The visitor can then order his or her meal through the At-Your-Request Room Service line, just as a patient would. When meals are delivered, just exchange the receipt for the guest tray.
Kosher Dining
In addition to providing Kosher meals for patients, UH Cleveland Medical Center offers Kosher-certified vending machines in the Atrium and Lerner Tower vending rooms for guests. A Kosher Hospitality Room on the first floor of Lakeside, operated by the Cleveland Bikur Cholim organization, offers Kosher snacks, microwaveable meals and beverages, and a place for quiet reflection.
Clinical Nutrition Services
Registered dietitians are part of each patient’s healthcare team, making sure all of your nutrition needs are met. Dietitians are available to provide diet education and answer patients’ nutrition-related questions.
Clinical Nutrition Services: Your nurse can contact our registered dietitians for you. After discharge, call 216-844-1499 to make an appointment with a registered dietitian. A physician’s referral is required.
Electronic Medical Record
Our new electronic medical record system, Epic, provides you with safe, secure access to your UH personal health record (PHR) through our online patient portal, UH MyChart. Sign up today and enjoy having all of your health information and test results in one place.
Patient Privacy
At UH Cleveland Medical Center, all patient information is confidential. We carefully follow the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which requires hospitals to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of all electronic protected health information.

Patient Advocacy Program
If you have concerns about any part of your care, we encourage you to first talk with your doctor, nurse or other caregiver. If your concerns are not resolved, or you prefer to talk with a third party, our Patient Care Advocates are here to help. You can freely voice complaints and suggest changes without being subject to coercion, discrimination, reprisal or unreasonable interruption of care, treatment and services. You may contact a Patient Care Advocate by phone, mail, email or fax. Our goal is to acknowledge your concern within one business day. We can:
- Address questions or concerns you have about your care
- Help you exercise your healthcare rights
- Review patient safety issues
- Clarify hospital policies
- Bridge the gap where you feel your expectations have not been met
- Provide information about hospital and community services
- Receive compliments for outstanding doctors and staff members
- Serve as a formal grievance mechanism for you and your family
We hope that through our efforts, you and your family will have a positive experience at University Hospitals.
