American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program®

Magnet Designation is the highest nursing credential a healthcare organization can achieve. Magnet status indicates that the organization has met the most stringent, evidence-based standards of nursing excellence in patient care delivery.

  • In 2025 Cleveland Medical Center received their 5th consecutive designation – an honor achieved by fewer than 2% of the nation’s more than 6,000 hospitals. Receiving this designation five consecutive times demonstrates our long-standing commitment to sustained excellence and superior patient outcomes. We are dedicated to the highest standards in professional nursing practice, and in cultivating a positive work environment for our entire staff.
  • For patients, Magnet status confirms that they are receiving care from nurses and healthcare professionals who meet the highest national standards for quality, safety and expertise. UH Cleveland Medical Center also was awarded three exemplars, which highlight exceptional nursing practice that is worthy of imitation by other organizations. At UH Cleveland Medical Center, 83% of nurses hold a BSN degree or higher, while the national benchmark is 80%. We also attained exemplars for our ambulatory spaces, which outperformed national benchmarks in two quality areas.
  • Magnet recognition also validates the strength of UH Cleveland Medical Center’s interprofessional collaboration, dedication to innovation in patient care, and the professional governance model that empowers every team member to contribute to their success. This credential is testament to the countless contributions that CMC nurses, in collaboration with other team members, have made in their commitment to provide quality patient care through innovations in professional nursing practice.

Beacon Award for Excellence

For patients and their families, the Beacon Award signifies exceptional care in a unit that puts patients first. For nurses, this award can mean a positive and supportive work environment with greater collaboration, higher morale and lower turnover.

  • In 2025, the Trauma Surgical ICU achieved a bronze status. This signifies an effective and systematic approach to policies, procedures and processes that include engagement of staff and key stakeholders; fact-based evaluation strategies for continuous process improvement; and performance measures that meet or exceed relevant benchmarks. UH Cleveland Medical Center's TSIUC was given this award by meeting the following evidence-based Beacon Award for Excellence criteria:
    • Leadership structures and systems
    • Appropriate staffing and staff engagement
    • Effective communication, knowledge management, and learning and development
    • Evidence-based practice and processes
    • Outcome measurement
