New ICU Beds

  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) leaders and staff identified a significant patient safety risk in our adult ICUs related to outdated beds with surfaces that were no longer optimal for preventing hospital-acquired pressure injuries in critically ill patients. This concern was elevated through nursing channels and advocacy efforts that reached executive leadership. Following persistent collaboration among frontline nurses, clinical leaders, and administrative teams, including support from the Chief Nursing Officer, the request for emergency capital funding to replace these beds was approved and executed.
  • All adult ICU beds at CMC have now been upgraded with state-of-the-art pressure-redistribution surfaces and advanced microclimate management technologies. These improvements are expected to reduce interface pressure, support better patient repositioning, and enhance skin integrity outcomes, thereby decreasing the incidence of preventable pressure injuries in this high-risk population.
