Advanced Research at the Urology Institute

University Hospitals Urology Institute is dedicated to helping clinicians and physician scientists realize their visions by providing assistance at every level, from coordinating funding to providing state-of-the-art labs.

Our goal is to move potential therapies from bench to bedside as quickly as possible. Each year, our department consistently ranks in the top 25 urology departments for most research funding by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and our researchers publish more than 150+ scientific peer-reviewed papers annually.

NIH RO1 Grant

Lee Ponsky, MD is the co-principal investigator on an NIH R01 grant to develop a combined quantitative MRI and computerized decision support exam for more accurate detection and grading of prostate cancer both in the peripheral and transitional zones.

Adonis Hijaz, MD, along with a team of physicians and engineers from UH and Case Western Reserve University have developed a novel woven collagen mesh material for potential use in mid-urethral sling (MUS) surgeries.
