Specialized Care for Osteoporosis at Every Stage

Rheumatology specialists at the Osteoporosis Center at University Hospitals Minoff Health Center at Chagrin Highlands provide expert diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering from osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by decreased bone strength and increased bone fragility. Affected individuals – often post-menopausal women – are at an increased risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures. Loss of estrogen, aging, steroid use, eating disorders and smoking are risk factors associated with getting osteoporosis.

The UH Osteoporosis Center diagnoses and treats osteoporosis patients at nearly any stage through advanced and safe bone density tests. Our certified Dexa Scan technologists perform bone density scans that expose patients to just 10 percent of the radiation used during a standard chest X-Ray. Bone density scans are recommended for post-menopausal women, women who have had hysterectomies, people 50 years of age and older, people with eating disorders or patients on chronic Prednisone therapy.

Bone density results are then reviewed by and discussed with a team of medical specialists who recommend treatment options.
