Cara Smith MT-BC

Cara Smith is a music therapist with University Hospitals Connor Integrative Health Network, serving patients at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center. Having graduated from Berklee College of Music as a dual major in music therapy and vocal performance, her music therapy training included practicums at Boston Children’s Hospital, Mclean Psychiatric Hospital and volunteering at private practices. Cara’s pursuits as a professional singer and songwriter led to many years of performing experiences before joining the team as UH Connor Integrative Health Network’s first music therapy intern, including releasing an original album, winning the title of Best Female Artist with the 11th National Acoustic Music Awards, and performing with a live band onboard cruise ships. Cara’s interests also include ethnomusicology, philanthropy and international travel. She is the founder and president of Umoja Global Community Music Therapy, a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable music therapy programs throughout East Africa by training and empowering women. Presently, Cara is pursuing her Master’s in Global Music Therapy as a semi-distance student at University of Pretoria in Pretoria, South Africa. Cara believes music is a universal healer and connector for all and strives to combine all of these multifaceted interests into providing the most impactful care for her patients. She is thrilled to be a part of the team and looks forward to more adventures in music to come.
