Surgical Oncology
Our surgical oncologists, who are either fellowship trained or exclusively see breast cancer patients, offer the very latest in surgical advances in breast cancer care.
General Surgeons
Our surgical team includes general surgeons who treat breast cancer and other types of cancer.
Medical Oncology
Medical oncology uses cancer-fighting medications to treat cancer. Our breast cancer medical oncologists offer personalized treatments that include chemotherapy, genomic/targeted therapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy and novel treatments available only through a clinical trial.
General Oncology, Including Breast Cancer
Our medical oncology staff includes oncologists in the community setting who see breast cancer patients as well as patients who have other types of cancer.
Radiation Oncology
Radiation therapy uses X-rays or other high-energy types of radiation to destroy cancer cells and shrink tumors. Our radiation oncologists offer breast cancer patients the most advanced radiation therapy treatment options available.
Breast Radiologists
Breast radiologists specialize in interpreting images of the breast in order to diagnose and help treat different conditions, including cancer. These physicians read mammograms, breast ultrasounds and breast MRIs, and perform diagnostic breast procedures that can help in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
High-Risk Breast Cancer Prevention Program
Our team of advanced practice providers specializing in breast cancer prevention can help determine if a patient is at high risk for developing breast cancer. We also develop personalized programs for each patient while offering different options to reduce breast cancer risk.
Breast Cancer Survivorship
Our breast cancer survivorship program helps patients navigate life following treatment. The program is staffed by specially trained nurse practitioners who care for patients, monitor health and provide education about risk-reducing measures and recognizing signs and symptoms of cancer recurrence. The starting point for the program is an end-of-treatment visit with one of our medical oncology advanced practice providers.
Genetic Testing
At University Hospitals, we offer genetic testing for hereditary cancer. This includes testing for genes that are known to be associated with elevated breast cancer risk, including BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations, which are two of the most common mutations. When a gene mutation is detected, other family members who have not been diagnosed with a breast cancer can be tested. If a family member tests positive for an alteration, they can then work with their healthcare provider to manage their higher risk for these types of cancer.
