Research Training

Although our training program does not include a dedicated year of research, our residents are required to complete a research project at the end of their residency. Trainees select a project mentor early in the course of their residency and develop a project that they will pursue throughout their training.

Resident research projects may range from basic science to clinical, patient-based research. At the beginning of their training, residents participate in a statistics course learning the building blocks of what it entails to develop an evidence-based research project. Residents are required to present their projects at the end of their training at the department-sponsored “Resident Science Day.” Some Residents go on to present their projects at national meetings as well.
