India Elective Rotation

Eye India Elective RotationThe Department of Ophthalmology offers an elective rotation for our senior residents to the prestigious L.V. Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, India.

Founded in October 1986 by the preeminent ophthalmologist, Dr. Gullapalli N. Rao, LVPEI has evolved into a world renowned organization, with six main areas of focus:

  • Comprehensive patient care
  • Clinical research
  • Sight enhancement and rehabilitation
  • Community eye health
  • Education
  • Product development

LVPEI’s charter aims at providing 50% of its surgical services free of cost to the economically disadvantaged. In collaboration with the World Health Organization and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, LVPEI has designed and implemented many innovative community eye health programs.

Residents on this three-week elective rotation to LVPEI will gain medical and surgical experience in all the ophthalmic subspecialty areas. They will also have a substantial surgical experience as primary surgeon, primarily in cataract surgery. We are pleased this elective is being supported by LVPEI, and the Ophthalmology Education Worldwide, a Cleveland-based foundation.
