Chairman's Message

The Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center Department of Neurological Surgery is primarily affiliated with one of the nation's top hospitals, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and its UH Neurological Institute, as well as UH Seidman Cancer Center/Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. The department is also affiliated with the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Administration Medical Center.

The Department of Neurosurgery is committed to advancing the field of neurosurgery through innovative, integrated and individualized care, unparalleled research and a passionate commitment to training tomorrow's clinicians.

Our team of neurosurgeons and neuro-oncologists treat the full range of conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord and nerves. Working primarily with the UH Neurological Institute, the department offers a full spectrum of conventional treatment options for both adults and children, while also developing innovative and promising protocols for more complex neurological cases. Our strong emphasis on translational neuroscience means that newly developed treatments and techniques transfer more rapidly from the research stage to actual patient care.

The department knows that all patients are different. That's why we take a patient-centered approach to care in which our teams of skilled specialists collaborate to develop customized care plans focused on patient comfort. Our skill and expertise in minimally invasive approaches and the latest technologies allow us to treat a wide range of conditions through patient-friendly surgical approaches that result in less scarring, faster recovery times, reduced postoperative pain and shorter hospital stays.

The department prides itself in its teaching role, providing medical education in a wide variety of forums through Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, one of the nation's best medical schools. Our physicians and scientists - who also serve as members of the school's faculty - are leaders in their respective fields and their ongoing research programs pushing the boundaries of medical progress.

Our multi-dimensional approach and dedication to research and education play a major role in creating the rich legacy of landmark medical discovery that continues to this day.

Sincerely,
