Volunteers deliver the support necessary to ensure that UH Parma Medical Center continues to provide excellent, personalized care. Our program promotes community wellness and also raises funds for the benefit of the hospital's healing environment.

- Help in our communities to promote greater interest in the hospital and better understanding of its services, needs, aims and challenges

The observation program allows individuals interested in a healthcare career to shadow a UH Parma employee to learn more about the profession in a hospital setting.

2026 Summer Volunteer Program
UH Parma Medical Center offers an eight-week volunteer program for high school and college students over the summer months. Students will be assigned to volunteer roles throughout the hospital and affiliate medical sites.
Students must submit a volunteer application, interview with Volunteer Services, and attend an orientation session. Students must commit to one shift of 3-4 hours per week. Most volunteer experiences will be Monday through Friday with limited volunteer opportunities available in the evenings and weekends.
Note: Students with schedule conflicts involving more than one week of the program calendar should not apply. Students are encouraged to apply early as assignment spots are limited. Application must be received by Friday, April 24, 2026. You will receive additional instructions and paperwork after reviewing applications. Before the start date, all paperwork and requirements must be completed.
Note: For students under age 18, a parent or guardian must sign the application.
Each student will attend an orientation session to familiarize them with the expectations of the position assigned to them.
Program Schedule: (start and end dates are flexible, based on student's school schedule)

- Ending week of July 27, 2026

Volunteer Summer Program Service Areas
Here is a brief description of some of our Volunteer Service areas. As you complete your application, think about what volunteering area might interest you. Return completed application to Gerri Novicky at Geralyn.Novicky@UHhospitals.org with your choice of service area. We will make every effort to assign you to that area.
You must obtain a One Step TB Test or a T-Spot Blood Draw with negative results within 6 months of volunteering. You will receive a name badge and uniform, which must be returned at the end of the eight weeks. In addition, you will receive a meal ticket for your use in the cafeteria or coffee shop on the day of volunteering.
Comfort Care – Visit non-isolation patients and provide comfort items such as stress balls, pillows, rosaries, prayer books, etc, and diversional activities like crossword puzzles and word search books.
Visitor Ambassador Service – Greet and/or escort patients and visitors to designated departments of the hospital. Provide wheelchair assistance as necessary to patients and visitors entering/exiting the building. Retrieve wheelchairs from other areas, as necessary.
Visitor Ambassador Service – Description is the same as above except you will be in Medical Arts Building 4.
Storeroom/Messenger – Assist with opening boxes and stocking shelves. Pull orders and deliver to units as needed.
Nursing Unit Assistant – Answer call lights and refer patient needs to staff, read to patients, talk to patients, help them order their meals, set up meal trays for patients (volunteers are not allowed to feed patients) replenish gloves in patient room. Assist with other tasks, as necessary.
