Labs

Testing Facilities in the Division of Genomic and Molecular Pathology

The Division of Genomic and Molecular Pathology laboratories have offered genetic screening and diagnostic testing for numerous genetic and oncology conditions for more than 25 years.

The laboratories combine clinical practice with research, allowing the division to offer patients advanced and innovative diagnostic testing. In addition, as an assurance of its quality, the laboratories are certified by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and approved by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). Our faculty includes a board-certified clinical cytogeneticist/clinical molecular geneticist, a board-certified clinical molecular geneticist/clinical geneticist, two board-certified molecular pathologists and a team of bioinformaticians and scientific staff.

Division of Genomic and Molecular Pathology Laboratories at a Glance

Cytogenetics Laboratory

The Cytogenetics Laboratory provides high quality chromosome analysis on a variety of specimens including amniocenteses, chorionic villi sampling, products of conception, peripheral blood, bone marrow, and solid tumors. The Cytogenetics Laboratory works in close conjunction with our Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization (FISH) section to detect specific abnormalities and to delineate complex karyotypes.

Molecular Genetics Laboratory

The Molecular Laboratory offers a variety of testing by direct DNA analyses using PCR-based methodologies, DNA hybridization, methylation analysis, Invader assay, and Sanger sequencing analysis. Our full-service molecular laboratory offers both clinical testing for inherited and neoplastic conditions and translational research collaborations.

UH Translational Laboratory

The UH Translational Laboratory uses a combination of next-generation sequencing (NGS) and custom bioinformatics pipelines to offer a variety of testing including actionable somatic mutation and gene fusion panels for solid tumors, targeted mutation panels for hematologic malignancies, and genotyping of infectious diseases to aid in treatment selection.
