About

Esseim Sharma, MD, is a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, serving as Director of Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Services at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, and Director of Ventricular Arrhythmias Research at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

Dr. Sharma earned his medical degree from Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey. His postdoctoral training included an internal medicine residency and cardiovascular disease fellowship at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, during which he also served as chief cardiology fellow and was recognized with a teaching award for his academic excellence. He then completed a second fellowship in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, Massachusetts, to further hone his skills in this subspecialty.

Dr. Sharma is board certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine. His clinical and research interests and areas of expertise are in complex ablation for atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Sharma has contributed to the field of cardiac electrophysiology with more than 40 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, abstracts and medical podcasts. Dr. Sharma has also served as a manuscript reviewer for medical journals and has presented his research at national and international conferences.

Dr. Sharma currently serves as an assistant professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and is part of the core faculty of the cardiac electrophysiology fellowship program at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute.
