Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) Research
Benign prostatic enlargement is highly prevalent, affecting approximately half of men at age 60 and older. The Division of Men’s Voiding Dysfunction research initiatives focus on evaluating new and emerging technologies, understanding real-world practice patterns and improving treatment durability and safety across diverse patient populations.
Adoption, Safety and Retreatment Rates of the Prostatic Urethral Lift
The prostatic urethral lift (PUL) has emerged as an important minimally invasive option for men with lower urinary tract symptoms related to BPE. To better understand how this therapy performs outside controlled trials, we evaluated PUL use across inpatient and ambulatory settings using the Premier Healthcare database.
Our study examines national adoption trends, procedural safety and retreatment rates compared with other contemporary endoscopic therapies. These insights help inform patient selection, procedural planning and long-term expectations for minimally invasive BPH management.
