Mind-Body Intervention Research
Mind-body intervention research at University Hospitals Connor Whole Health has focused on improving self-management and coping skills among adolescents and young adults (AYA) with type 2 diabetes. Findings to date suggest that mind-body techniques can play a vital role in improving health outcomes and overall quality of life for this population.
Exploring Mind–Body Interventions for Youth with Type 2 Diabetes
“Barriers and Facilitators to Incorporating an Integrative Mind–Body Intervention in Youth with Type 2 Diabetes” was an intervention study that combined education about T2D self-management with mind-body techniques, including diaphragmatic breathing, cognitive reframing, inner smile meditation, and guided visualization. The study utilized qualitative research methods, conducting interviews to identify barriers, facilitators, and components of an acceptable intervention. These findings highlight the importance of addressing both physical and mental health needs in AYA with T2D. Future research will focus on evaluating the effectiveness of this intervention.
