Critical Care Services

The critical care physicians, nurses and other staff at University Hospitals care for critically ill and injured patients around the clock in our state-of-the-art intensive care units.

Our team provides compassionate care 24 hours a day, seven days a week for patients with potentially life-threating conditions. Our specialty intensive care units (ICUs) include cardiac, neuro and surgical ICUs, as well as our pediatric intensive care unit at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Each unit utilizes leading-edge technologies and monitoring techniques to ensure our patients are receiving the very best care.

Our multidisciplinary team collaborates closely with multiple specialists to provide seamless, comprehensive care. These include acute care surgeons, trauma specialists, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, speech pathologists and others.

Trauma/Surgical Intensive Care Unit

The 20-bed Trauma/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (TSICU), located in the Mather Pavilion at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, provides care to critically ill and injured patients. The highly skilled medical and nursing staff assure that patients recovering from a variety of surgical procedures benefit from the most advanced technologies and treatment options available in an environment of compassionate care.

Pediatric Critical Care

UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital provides 24-hour critical care for serious injuries and illnesses in our pediatric intensive care unit.

Neurocritical Care

Our trauma team works with neurology and neurosurgery specialists to provide care for patients with traumatic brain injuries.

ICU Diary Download

In the ICU, a patient’s status can change minute-to-minute, and we do our best to keep families fully updated. An ICU Diary is provided at admission as a resource for families to track patient status, questions and recovery, as well as daily activities and goals.
