Clinical Training

First Year Rheumatology Fellowship Clinical Training

Most of the first year of clinical training is spent on inpatient consults at University Hospitals, the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center and outpatient continuity clinics. Rheumatology fellows attend rounds at least three times per week. Joint aspiration and injection are taught in the context of patient care, supervised by Faculty. Fellows frequently assist in the teaching of musculoskeletal medicine to second-year medical students at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Second Year Rheumatology Fellowship Clinical Training

Along with research and scholarly activities, the second-year clinical training emphasizes care in outpatient clinics, including:

  • The Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center
  • University Hospitals Minoff Health Center at Chagrin Highlands
  • University Hospitals Mather Pavilion

There are two months of inpatient consult responsibilities. Rheumatology fellows can attend an annual review for the rheumatology boards (at either New York University or the University of California, San Francisco) and the Annual Scientific Meeting of the American College of Rheumatology. Training in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound is also available.

Third Year Rheumatology Fellows Clinical Training

Research track rheumatology fellows may combine clinical and research activities during three years or focus years one and two on clinical and year three on research work.
