Curriculum and Rotation Framework

Essential Services of Public Health

Through a strong curriculum and rotation framework, the Preventive Medicine Residency Program at University Hospitals, in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University, provides training in the following 10 essential services of public health:

  1. Monitor health status to identify and solve community health problems
  2. Diagnose and investigate health problems and health hazards in the community
  3. Inform, educate and empower people about health issues
  4. Mobilize community partnerships and action to identify and solve health problems
  5. Develop policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts
  6. Enforce laws and regulations that protect health and ensure safety
  7. Link people to needed personal health services and assure the provision of healthcare when otherwise unavailable
  8. Assure competent public and personal healthcare workforce
  9. Evaluate effectiveness, accessibility and quality of personal and population-based health services
  10. Research new insights and innovative solutions to health problems

Categorical Preventive Medicine Didactics

Categorical preventive medicine didactics are held twice monthly. Each session is three hours in duration. One of the didactics sessions is held at the Center for Community Health Integration and the other session is held at our community training partner, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health.

Residents will also participate in and lead the combined Family and Preventive Medicine didactics. Residents are encouraged to attend the American College of Preventive Medicine annual meeting, usually held in the spring, as well as local conferences.
