Medicare Telehealth Coverage
Important Update: Extension of Medicare Telehealth Coverage
On 2/3/2026, legislation was signed into law that affects Medicare payment for telehealth visits.
Medicare will continue to pay for virtual/telehealth visits for the next 2 years.
What's Extended?
Medicare will continue paying for virtual visits or telehealth visits through at least December 31, 2027. This includes (but is not limited to) the following:
- Telehealth visits for when you are located in your home. This includes both video and audio-only visits.
- Please note: UH always recommends a video visit. Audio-only visits should only be chosen when you do not have ability to attend a video visit or you are otherwise unable to attend a video visit.
- Telehealth services provided by Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
How Does This Affect You?
Most people will not need to do anything. This extends the prior payment waivers for Medicare patients. If you previously cancelled an upcoming virtual visit or telehealth appointment due to concerns about lack of payment coverage, we are happy to assist you in rescheduling that appointment at: 1-866-UH4-CARE (1-866-844-2273).
