This eliminates patients needing to move throughout the facility for care, and enables the use of built-in advanced imaging technology to guide complex procedures, resulting in the best possible outcomes.

What makes the CAHVC’s advanced imaging services different from other locations with cardiovascular imaging capabilities?
University Hospitals offers multiple locations with excellent cardiovascular imaging capabilities. The CAHVC at UH Cleveland Medical Center is one of a few sites in the world able to perform specific, highly-advanced procedures such as next generation stress testing, non-contrast vascular magnetic resonance imaging and evaluation of unusual cardiovascular conditions. These tests require special skill and space to conduct.
Which patients are most appropriate for having their imaging procedures done in the CAHVC?
Patients with complex vascular and structural heart disorders requiring advanced treatment such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), MitraClip® or Watchman® would benefit from having their imaging completed in the CAHVC. Prior to these minimally invasive procedures, patients need particular intricate imaging, and it’s best to have the imaging done in a location where exposure to and experience with these type of cases are higher. Further, in some situations the imaging can be done the same day as the procedure, saving time and streamlining care.

Bringing the Vision to Life
Creating the nearly 10,000 square foot space within the existing hospital structure at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, took complex planning, intense commitment, and some creative construction over the course of two years.
As part of construction, crews reinforced the floor to safely support the MRI and CT weighing a combined 15,000 pounds. A crane lifted the machines into the facility through the roof.
Walls, doorways, fixtures and equipment were custom fitted to allow the flexibility to utilize and communicate seamlessly throughout the space.
A top-of-the-line 70 cm 1.5T Siemens system offers a full range of applications including in-house developed images for unprecedented precision in heart and vascular imaging.
A state-of-the-art Siemens Dual-Energy Scanner allows exquisite image resolution in time of the beating heart. The scanner is connected to a next generation interventional suite supporting any potential imaging need before, during or after a procedure.
One-of-a-kind exercise MRI allows for imaging of patients during physical exertion. Created with grants from the National Institutes of Health, the integration of imaging with exercise and cardiopulmonary testing includes artificial intelligence capabilities to detect physiological changes that would otherwise not be detected.
