Traditional Paramedic Initial Certification Course

This accredited Paramedic Program provides the advanced knowledge, clinical skills, and field experience required for high-level emergency medical practice. Students learn advanced airway management, cardiac and ECG interpretation, medication administration, trauma care, obstetric and pediatric emergencies, and medical pathophysiology. Training is delivered through instructor-led lectures, hands-on ALS skills labs, high-fidelity simulation, hospital clinical rotations, and supervised field internship. Designed to prepare future paramedics for real-world decision making, the program meets all state and national education standards. Graduates are eligible to sit for the National Registry Paramedic examinations and apply for Ohio Paramedic certification.

Paramedic Initial Certification Program 

The Paramedic Program is an advanced, accredited initial certification course that prepares students to deliver high-acuity emergency medical care in both pre-hospital and interfacility environments. This in-person program follows the National EMS Education Standards, all Ohio Department of Public Safety Division of EMS (ODPS-EMS) Paramedic curriculum requirements, and the accreditation standards of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). 

Graduates are eligible to sit for the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) Paramedic cognitive and psychomotor examinations. 

Through comprehensive classroom instruction, immersive skills labs, high-fidelity simulation, clinical rotations, and supervised field internship, students build the advanced knowledge, clinical judgment, and technical proficiency required to function as competent entry-level paramedics. 

Learning Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion, students will be able to: 

  • Conduct advanced ALS patient assessments, develop differential diagnoses, and initiate treatment for trauma, medical, cardiac, respiratory, neurologic, obstetric, and pediatric patients. 

  • Demonstrate competency in advanced airway management including endotracheal intubation, supraglottic airways, waveform capnography, and ventilator management. 

  • Administer and monitor medications, perform pharmacologic calculations, manage IV/IO access, and safely carry out medication interventions permitted under Ohio Paramedic scope. 

  • Interpret ECGs, manage dysrhythmias, conduct cardioversion and pacing, and lead cardiac arrest resuscitation according to current AHA guidelines. 

  • Apply EMS operations, rescue awareness, incident management, and mass-casualty triage within high-performance field decision-making. 

  • Demonstrate leadership, critical thinking, ethical behavior, and effective team communication in complex emergency environments. 

  • Achieve eligibility for the NREMT Paramedic cognitive examinations. 

Structure & Contact Hours: 

  • Didactic Instruction: Advanced pathophysiology, cardiology, pharmacology, trauma, medical emergencies, OB/Peds, neurology, and EMS operations. 

  • Skills Labs: Airway management, IV/IO access, medication administration, ECG interpretation, trauma interventions, and ALS decision-making. 

  • High-Fidelity Simulation: Scenario-based training emphasizing communication, teamwork, and critical reasoning. 

  • Hospital Clinical Rotations: Emergency, ICU/CCU, pediatric, obstetrics, OR/airway, behavioral health, and specialty areas. 

  • Field Internship:Supervised shifts with certified Paramedic preceptors to build real-world competency and independent practice of readiness. 

This program meets or exceeds all ODPS-EMS, CAAHEP, and CoAEMSP educational, clinical, and field requirementsfor initial Paramedic certification.

Course Dates: 09/09/2026 - 05/30/2027

Meeting Schedule: Mon/Wed 0900-1530, Every Other Saturday 0900-1530 Starting 09/12/2026

*clinical/field hours scheduled independently. 

Tuition: 

Program Tuition: $5500

(Includes books, online platforms, clinical fees, uniforms, and supplies as applicable.) 

$35 application fee required at registration. 

Admission Requirements: 

  • Current Ohio EMT certification in good standing 

  • Successful completion of the Anatomy & Physiology prerequisite (80% or higher) 

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet clinical agency onboarding requirements 

  • Health clearance including immunizations, TB screening, and drug/background checks 

  • Current AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers 

  • All necessary paperwork and fees submitted prior to program start 

Certification Eligibility: 

Upon successful completion of all course components, students are eligible to: 

  • Sit for the NREMT Paramedic examinations 

  • Apply for Ohio Paramedic certification through the ODPS-EMS 

Career Pathways: 

Graduates are prepared for advanced EMS roles in: 

  • Municipal fire/EMS agencies 

  • Private and hospital-based EMS services 

  • Emergency departments and critical care transport 

  • Tactical, industrial, and specialty rescue response 

  • Flight/critical care transport (with additional experience) 

The Paramedic credential also supports long-term career advancement toward nursing, PA programs, emergency medicine, and other allied health fields.
