Pediatric Clinical Update | November 2023

Courtney Batt, MD PediatricsCourtney Batt, MD

Courtney Batt, MD, joined the division of academic pediatrics & adolescent medicine at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s in August 2023. Keep reading to get to know her a little better:

How old were you when you felt the call to become a doctor?

For as long as I can remember people have been encouraging me to become a doctor. I recently found a toy doctor kit at my Mom’s house that I must have received as a gift at 5 or 6 years old. I actively resisted that pressure for a long time thinking that it sounded like such a long, hard road. However, it was always in the back of my mind. I’m truly not sure when I finally made the decision, but I think part of me had always been planning on it.

Areas of clinical interest:

Obesity medicine, transgender health, contraception and sexual health, mental health, and transitions of care

Who or what inspires you and why?

My kids inspire me to be a role model that they can look up to. I want my son and daughter to know that when I leave them for the day to go to work, I am trying so hard to take great care of patients who really need it.

Dog or cat?

Dog! I like cats, but too many people in my life are allergic

Coffee or tea?

If I have to choose one, tea. I don’t do well with caffeine. But I’m really obsessed with Starbuck’s Pink Drink right now.

Cavs, Guardians or Browns?

As a lifelong Clevelander, I can’t choose. I love all of our teams!

Favorite book (outside of medical journals)?

The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  My three year old “reads” it to me, and it is one of my favorite things right now!

People would be surprised to know that I …

... see the question re Coffee or Tea. Lots of people are surprised that I don’t like to drink caffeine at all and wonder how I got through med school and training without it!
