Pediatric Clinical Update | November 2023

Amy Middleton, MDAmy Middleman, MD

Amy Middleman, MD, joined UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s in August 2023 as chief of the division of academic pediatrics & adolescent medicine.  Keep reading to get to know her a little better:

How old were you when you felt the call to become a doctor?

8th grade – I always knew I wanted to work with children, specifically. I dabbled with the idea of being a teacher as well, but I landed on physician quickly when I realized how much I enjoyed biology.

Areas of clinical interest:

Disordered eating, anxiety/depression, gender affirming care, vaccines

Who or what inspires you and why?

At the risk of sounding hackneyed, I truly find the patients to be my biggest inspiration. Each and every adolescent I see has a unique approach to facing the challenges in their life. I love hearing their stories and helping them create their own, autonomous path to optimal health and happiness. Adolescents are so much fun to work with!

Dog or cat?

I have two dogs – and they rule the roost!!

Coffee or tea?

I did not start drinking coffee until well after it would have been most beneficial for staying awake!! I like to have a decent amount of coffee with my creamer!

Cavs, Guardians or Browns?

Sorry – I was born and raised in Pittsburgh…

Favorite book (outside of medical journals)?

I like books that make me laugh.

People would be surprised to know that I …

... acted in plays through the end of medical school.
