About

Pablo Ruda Vega, MD, is Director of the Cardiac Surgery Network and Co-Director of the Coronary Center at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute. He also serves as Director of Cardiac Surgery at University Hospitals Lake West Medical Center (Willoughby, Ohio) and University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center (Beachwood, Ohio).

Dr. Ruda Vega offers patients the full spectrum of coronary surgeries, from multi-arterial grafting to minimally invasive robotic surgery. His passion for using leading-edge technology to improve patient outcomes resulted in the launch of the first robotic coronary surgery program in Ohio at UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute. In less than a year, this robotic surgery program grew to be one of the largest such programs in the country. Collaborating with Intuitive Surgical to teach robotic coronary surgery to other surgeons around the world, Dr. Ruda Vega has helped position UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute as a major teaching center for advanced robotic surgical techniques.

After earning his medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires, Dr. Ruda Vega completed residencies in general surgery and cardiovascular surgery at the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires in Argentina. He then came to the United States to complete a residency and a fellowship in adult cardiac surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.

After his training, Dr. Ruda Vega returned to Argentina, where he worked as a staff surgeon, eventually earning the role of Chairman of Cardiac Surgery for the San Jose and San Cayetano clinics in Buenos Aires. UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute recruited Dr. Ruda Vega in 2021.

In addition to his large surgical practice, Dr. Ruda Vega excels as an educator, serving as lecturer, instructor or lead administrator for multiple professional conferences. He has also authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, abstracts and book chapters on various topics related to cardiac surgery advances and techniques.
