Thank you for your continued interest in the University Hospitals Health Scholars Program. For Summer 2026, the program is undergoing a strategic transition as we refine and strengthen the Health Scholars experience.
Applications for the 2026 Health Scholars Program are now closed to the public. This year’s cohort will be limited to a smaller group of returning scholars who participated in the program during Summer 2025. This focused approach allows us to pilot program enhancements, deepen mentorship, and strengthen academic and experiential components.
As part of this transition, University Hospitals has partnered with John Carroll University to support expanded academic and campus-based experiences for scholars. This collaboration marks an important step in the continued evolution of the program and will help inform future cohorts.
The University Hospitals Health Scholars Program is a summer enrichment experience designed to introduce high school students to healthcare careers through hands-on learning, academic enrichment, and exposure to clinical and community health environments. Since its launch in 2015, the program has supported more than 200 students by providing opportunities to explore healthcare pathways, build professional skills, and gain a clearer understanding of college and career readiness in the health sciences. A core component of the program is its mentorship model, Health Scholar Mentors who are current college students pursuing healthcare careers, provide near-peer guidance, academic support, and real-world insight that helps scholars envision, prepare for, and persist on their own healthcare pathways.
The UH Health Scholars Program will reopen applications to the public in 2027 for the Summer 2027 cohort. We encourage interested students and families to check back for updates and future application announcements.
