UH Elyria Medical Center Announces Major Renovation of Surgical Suite

ELYRIA, OH ― University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center has finalized a commitment to proceed with an $11.2 million renovation of its surgical suite. This transformational renovation will modernize the hospital and further secure UH Elyria’s position as the healthcare provider of choice in Lorain County. Construction is expected to begin by early 2019.

Feedback from surgeons, surgical services staff, patients and their families helped shape the new design. Patient and family experience will be enhanced through the relocation and renovation of pre- and post-operative areas. Further enhancing the patient experience and privacy, this major renovation will enable greater efficiencies and more spacious operating rooms. The project will be completed in phases, allowing surgeries to continue during this process.

“Expanded operating room suites will enable UH Elyria surgeons to perform highly complex procedures locally, supporting our aim to provide high-quality care for patients, close to home,” said Kristi M. Sink, FACHE, President, UH Elyria Medical Center. “Additionally, this enhanced surgical capacity will support growth of several service lines and institutes at UH Elyria Medical Center, including the cardiac, vascular and thoracic surgeons of the UH Harrington Heart and Vascular Institute; UH Sports Medicine Institute and UH Neurological Institute (including orthopedic, spine and neurosurgery); UH Digestive Health Institute; UH Urology Institute; UH Pain Management Institute; as well as general surgery and podiatry.”

UH Elyria has successfully recruited several new surgeons in recent years, including specialists in many of these areas. They complement the many skilled surgeons who have practiced at UH Elyria for years.
