NEW PHYSICIAN Q&A | Bryan Pace, DO, FACOI, FACC

Bryan Pace, DO, FACOI, FACC
Bryan Pace, DO, FACOI, FACC

Q: You specialize in cardiology. Can you tell the community a little bit about what you do day-to-day?

A: As a cardiologist, I have special training in diagnosing, treating, and preventing the diseases of the heart and blood vessels. When seeing patients in the office I like to focus on prevention; finding ways to help prevent major adverse events such as heart attacks, strokes and recurrent hospitalizations.

Q: What types of heart & vascular issues do you solve? When should community members seek care from you?

A: I treat all of the most common cardiac conditions such as atherosclerosis/coronary heart disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, arrhythmias, and the frequently associated comorbidities such as hypertension and dyslipidemia. A member of the community should seek out the care of a cardiologist when they have known cardiac disease, new symptoms that they think may be related to a cardiac condition, or feel like they need to discuss their long-term risk and prevention strategies with an expert in my field.

Q: How long have you been practicing medicine? Where did you work prior to coming to UH?

A: I have been practicing medicine since completing medical school in 2009. I completed my internal medicine residency at South Pointe Hospital (a Cleveland-area hospital) in 2012 and my cardiology training at Sparrow hospital (In Lansing, Michigan and associated with Michigan State University). I then worked for Cleveland Clinic for several years followed, most recently, by practicing with Mission Health in Asheville, North Carolina.

Q: Where are you from? What drew you to UH Portage?

A: I grew up in Aurora, Ohio (Portage County), graduated from John Carroll University, and have lots of family in the Cleveland area. The east side is home for me. I was looking for an opportunity to move my family back home and UH Portage provided an opportunity to practice medicine in a community that I grew up in and helped shape who I am today.

Q: What is your favorite part about being a physician?

A: I have always loved the intellectual challenge that you face every day in medicine. Cardiology is rapidly expanding and “best medical care” is constantly changing. Sometimes it seems almost impossible to keep up, but that’s the challenge. Medicine forces you to continue to learn for the rest of your career. The good news is that it is fascinating to learn about the way the human body works; the complexities and nuances.

Q: Any other details you’d like to share about your practice?

A: I try to place a focus on preventative medicine; promote health/well-being and therefore prevent disease, disability and death. While there are great therapies for cardiovascular disease and new modalities of treatment discovered all the time, it is still best to prevent major illness and disease whenever possible.
