David Satcher Acting Internship Supplemental Application

University Hospitals proudly hosts 5 – 10 fourth-year medical students from groups traditionally underrepresented through our David Satcher Acting Internship. University Hospitals invites fourth-year medical students from groups traditionally underrepresented in medicine to apply for our David Satcher Acting Internship. Sponsored by the Office of Community Impact, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, The David Satcher Acting Internship offers 4-week clinical experience, mentorship, the opportunity to interact with faculty, residents, students, and staff, and residency and departmental leadership. The acting internship accepts students for June through November rotations.

To be eligible to apply for David Satcher Acting Internship, you must:

  • Identify as an underrepresented or minority medical student, including Black/African-American, Latinx/Hispanic, Native American/Alaska Native, and Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian backgrounds
  • Must be a US citizen, US permanent resident
  • Be a full-time fourth-year MD or DO student in good standing at an accredited US Medical School
  • Have completed your core internships before the start of your rotation
  • Have completed USMLE Step 1 before the start of your rotation

To complete this application, you will need:

  1. Apply to your preferred internships and complete the VSLO application
  2. You will also need your AAMC ID, preferred internship names, and preferred internship months from the VSLO application
  3. Three prepared statements of interest (in 2000 characters or less)
    1. Why are you interested in working in Northeast Ohio and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center?
    2. How do you embody clinical excellence?
    3. Why do you believe increasing the number of URIM physicians is important?
  4. Statement of Future Intent: Do you have an intent to practice your residency in Northeast Ohio? Why?
