Pharmacy Technician Trainee Program
Overview
The Pharmacy Technician Program at University Hospitals is an ASHP-accredited educational program designed to prepare students for a successful career as a pharmacy technician in various healthcare settings. Our program offers a comprehensive curriculum that integrates both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, ensuring that students are well-prepared to provide safe and effective medication-related services to patients under the supervision of licensed pharmacists.
Program Highlights:
- ASHP Accreditation: Our program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), ensuring that students receive high-quality education based on national standards for pharmacy technician training. This accreditation also enhances your eligibility for certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and state licensure.
- Curriculum Overview: The program covers a broad range of topics essential to the role of a pharmacy technician, including medication dispensing, drug therapy management, patient safety, pharmaceutical calculations, pharmacology, pharmacy law, and medication inventory control. Students will gain a thorough understanding of both hospital and community pharmacy settings.
- Hands-on Experience: In addition to classroom instruction, students participate in supervised clinical rotations at various healthcare facilities, including hospitals, retail pharmacies, and mail order settings. These practical experiences allow students to apply their knowledge and develop critical skills in a real-world environment.
- Certification Preparation: The program is designed to prepare students for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Successful completion of the program will ensure that students are well-equipped to pass the certification exams and begin their careers as certified pharmacy technicians.
- Job Placement Support: We provide ongoing career services to help graduates secure employment in a variety of pharmacy settings within University Hospitals.
