Masters in Public Health

Residents in the Preventive Medicine Residency Program will complete a Master of Public Health Program (MPH) at Case Western Reserve University. Founded in 1999, Case Western Reserve University's Master of Public Health Program is housed in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences.

Concentration Choices for Master of Public Health

The majority of coursework will take place in the first year of residency training and residents can choose one of five concentrations as indicated in the curriculum overview.

In addition to coursework, the MPH Program consists of a practicum and Capstone, which is the culminating experience of the MPH Program. These are conducted with partner organizations. Projects vary and are tailored to the resident's interest. Residents who have already obtained a Master of Public Health or equivalent degree prior to entering into the Preventive Medicine Residency Program can choose from a variety of other graduate courses based on their interests and future career plans.

Practicum

The goal of the practicum phase is to offer preventive medicine residents opportunities to apply theory and the evidence base for clinical prevention and public health practice in real-world settings. These rotations primarily occur in a governmental health setting based at the Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH).

Cuyahoga County Board of Health Partnership

The Cuyahoga County Board of Health has been serving the cities, villages and townships of Cuyahoga County since 1919. As Ohio's largest health district by population, servicing a major metropolitan area, the Board of Health provides a broad range of quality-driven public health programs and services. The essential services are provided based upon long-standing state mandates in public health law.

The Ohio Department of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Environmental Protection Agency have rated the board's services as exceptional in the areas of management, implementation and public health impact.
