Free Vascular Screening Event

There are two vascular screenings available at this event. You may register for one or both, depending on your risk factors. See descriptions below for details.

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Screening

More than half of those with PAD have no symptoms. PAD occurs when blood flow through the legs and feet is restricted by the buildup of fatty deposits in the blood vessels of the legs. It can cause pain and cramping that can make even walking miserable. In extreme cases, PAD can result in the loss of a leg or foot to amputation.

If you answer yes to any of these questions, find out your risk:

• Are you 50 years of age or older?
• Do you have diabetes?
• Have you ever smoked?
• Do you have high blood pressure and/or high cholesterol?

Carotid Artery Disease (CAD) Screening

CAD is a major risk factor for stroke, developing slowly and often without symptoms. Carotid arteries are the two large blood vessels in the neck that supply blood to the brain. When they become clogged with plaque, they narrow, affecting blood flow. If a blood clot occurs, a stroke can result.

If you answer yes to any of these questions, find out your risk:

• Are you 40 years of age or older?
• Do you have diabetes?
• Have you ever smoked?
• Do you have a family history of stroke, heart attack, high cholesterol or PAD?

The carotid artery disease screening is not appropriate if you have had carotid surgery in the past or are currently under the care of a doctor for carotid disease.
