Benefits of Pulmonary Rehabilitation

You don’t have to figure out how to manage your lung condition on your own with our team of healthcare providers dedicated to supporting you on your health journey. Numerous clinical studies have shown that patients who participate in pulmonary rehab feel more empowered to maintain healthy habits that minimize risk factors.

  • Relieve symptoms like shortness of breath and fatigue
  • Reduce fear and anxiety associated with managing chronic pulmonary disease
  • Increase exercise capacity, stamina and the ability to perform daily activities

Three-Phase Approach for the Best Outcomes

Phase One: During the patient’s hospital stay, our team provides education to minimize potential risk factors at home as well as recommendations for exercise and nutrition support.

Phase Two: Patients participate in a structured outpatient program three times per week. Individual and group counseling is available to support patients, based on individual needs and goals.

Phrase Three: Designed to help patients build a lifelong commitment to their health, our pulmonary rehab team provides supervised exercise sessions, as well as counseling to understand their specific lung condition, medication management, mental health and nutrition.

Better Breathers Support Group

University Hospitals also offers support through the American Lung Association’s Better Breathers Club. This national nonprofit organization encourages patients to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Patients learn about their condition, receive emotional support and share their own experiences and coping strategies.
