Paperless, online application to streamline the initial credentialing and reappointment processes

UH Clinical Update | September 2021

University Hospitals is significantly improving the credentialing process. New and existing University Hospitals’ practitioners will soon have access to a new paperless, online application to streamline the initial credentialing and reappointment processes.

UH now uses the Credentialing System. By completing the online application called the MSOW (Medical Staff Office (for the) Web) Practitioner Portal, providers will save time and will be able to sign off on all required forms only once instead of multiple times as currently needed. The Practitioner Portal is an add-on module to MSOW.

The application will pre-populate any information contained in MSOW into the Practitioner Portal. All providers have to do is validate this pre-populated information. The information in the Practitioner Portal will pre-populate multiple forms to alleviate the need to enter the same information numerous times.

Several links within the Practitioner Portal will allow providers access to the UH Medical Staff Bylaws for each facility, Code of Conduct, Compliance Training, and Portal FAQs. Also included will be linked to register for a DEA certificate or NPI number.

The Provider Portal will also offer providers secure online access from anywhere and allow for increased ease and convenience for providers.

"This new process will eliminate a significant pain point in the application process for all providers going through the credentialing process. The Practitioner Portal will accelerate the turnaround time by ensuring accuracy and completeness to reduce errors," said Janna Kennedy, Director of Medical Staff Services & Credentialing.

There will be three phases to fully transition from the old credentialing process to the MSOW Practitioner Portal:

Phase I: Employed providers will gain access to the Initial Credentialing Application on Sept. 1, 2021.

Phase II: Independent Providers will gain access to the Initial Credentialing Application. (Start date to be determined.)

Phase III: All Credentialed Providers will gain access to the Reappointment Application. (Start date to be determined.)
